How to Sponsor a Paint-out or Host Plein-air Painters

Is there a place that needs to be shared through the eyes of artists?  Do you have a cause that needs increased public awareness - that would benefit by the expressions of on site artists, singly or in a group, or even a festival?

Paint-outs are very exciting events, drawing together a diversity of artists, each expressing in their own way the essence of a time and place. Facilitate their access to the site, watch them draw and paint - and most of all, share the event and the paintings with others!  Art opens people's eyes and hearts and communicates love and respect without the need for words.

Go ahead - attract as wide an audience as you need. The better exposure you arrange for the event and the resulting art work, the better exposure there will be for the place and the issues surrounding it. Visual art is a tremendously effective tool for public education.

All images will be displayed permanently on this blog, by category according to each locality.  Further use of images must be arranged with individual artists.

Paint-out events may be large or small, in any season, and last from one day to a week, depending on what is best for you and the location, and how many artists respond to the call. I will make sure that the general membership of Plein-air Painters for Conservation is constantly increasing, especially in the local area of each sponsored paint-out.

Sponsors and hosting organizations or individuals may wish to increase the success of events by:

  • engaging partner organizations and local businesses in planning, promoting, and facilitating the event (eg: Scouts, cottage associations, outfitters, in-town businesses, etc.)
  • submitting names of interested local plein-air artists for us to consider as members of Plein-air Artists for Conservation
  • sending out a call to all local artists to participate in the event as guests of PAPC
  • sending out press releases and other forms of publicity relevant to the situation
  • making up information packages for artists, to introduce them to the local area
  • facilitating transportation to and from the site (or among local sites)
  • booking or locating accommodation (camping, donated lodging, B&B, or billeting)
  • arranging meals and providing water and comfort stations if necessary
  • engaging an evening speaker, demonstration, drama, or other entertaining or educational event appropriate to the natural history or human history/culture of the area
  • arranging a venue for exhibiting original work (still wet and unframed) produced by all participants in the paint-out. This could be a "Reception" at the end of the event, to be attended by the public and select guests & dignitaries (an opportunity for a few short speeches).
  • arrange for media coverage of painters at work and other highlights of the event.
Questions and suggestions are welcome. We are just beginning - share your ideas for artists and conservation!
